This is the list and descriptions of positions we are accepting applications for. Currently, we are not offering subbing training for most positions. Positions that you will need experience in subbing or a subtitling software will be noted in the requirements. Also, we are no longer accepting applications for people who wish to only be an uploader. To apply for uploader position, you must have a different position as your first choice in your application. To apply for a position please go here: Application Form. Position: Designers Description: Designers make graphics for our subteam. Including icons, board layouts, banners, and logos. Requirements: Subbing experience not necessary. Please include examples of your work with your application. Position: Editor Description: Editing goes after timing. An Editor is a person who edits the English translation (after it's timed by a timer) to make sure that it's sound and to see that it is ready for typesetting. Editors also correct any grammar mistakes that the grammar checker may have missed. Editors work closely with translators, grammar checkers, typesetters, and timers. Requirements: Basic understanding of spoken and written Korean. Experience in the subtitle software, Aegisub. Position: Encoder Description: Encoding goes after Quality Control. An encoder is a person who burns subtitles to video and determines the video and audio quality of the hardsub. Encoders must ensure the team logo is attached to the hardsub. Requirements: Must already know how to burn subtitles to a video. Position: Grammar Checker Description: Grammar checking goes after translator. A grammar checker is a person who checks raw translation to ensure that the English translation is grammatically correct. A good grammar checker knows the difference between loose and lose, and it's and its. Grammar checkers work closely with translators and editors. Requirements: Must be fluent in English and have excellent English grammar skills. Subbing experience not necessary. Position: Karaoke Stylist Description: Karaoke styling goes after karaoke timing. A Karaoke Stylist is a person who creates the karaoke style effects for our music video subs. Requirements: Must have experience as a karaoke stylist. Position: Korean Romanizer Description: A person who makes the romanizations for our karaoke subs. Our team only uses one kind of romanizations which I call 'syllabled style romanizations'. These are romanizations that are spaced out by syllables.
Requirements: Must be able to read Hangul and understand its pronunciation rules. Position: Quality Control Description: Quality Control goes after typesetting. A QC is a person who checks the overall quality of a video including subtitles, timing/typesetting errors, and typos. A member of our Quality Control team has two duties. They are time checker and subtitle format checker. As time checker the QC checks and corrects the timers' work by making sure each spoken line and caption is synced properly. As subtitle format checker the QC will check and correct grammar, punctuation, or typesetting mistakes. This is usually done simultaneously. Use of initials in videos is also determined by QCs. A QC is probably the most important jobs because they are to make sure our subs are top-notch. Requirements: Basic understanding of spoken and written Korean is required as well as use of the subtitling software, Aegisub, for timing and typesetting. Must be able to pay attention to detail and must be a perfectionist. Position: RAW Provider Description: A RAW provider is a person who provides original, non-subtitled videos. RAW providers are responsible for converting the videos into usable formats (usually avi) before uploading for the team to use. RAW providers may also attach our team logo to the video before uploading it otherwise the encoder will have to do it before final distribution. Requirements: Must be able to convert videos into AVI format. Subbing experience not necessary. Position: Timer Description: Timing goes after grammar checking. A timer is a person who syncs subtitles, determining when subtitles should appear in video. Our team has 3 different types of Timers. Dialouge Timers syncs the subtitles with the dialouge lines or lyrics in a video. Caption timers syncs the subtitles with the captions in a video. Karaoke timers are responsible for doing syllable by syllable timing in music videos. Requirements: Timing experience in Aegisub is required. Basic understanding of spoken and written Korean is recommended but not necessary. Position: Transcriber Description: Transcribing goes before translating. A transcriber creates a transcript in the video's native language for translators to use for translating the video into English. A transcriber should have fluency or near-fluency in the native language of the video and be able to type out all the words into a document. Requirements: Transcribers should have a good ear and be able to type out the words the speakers are saying in the video and be able to read the native language in order to add any captions to the transcripts. We accept Korean, Japanese, and Thai transcribers. Fluency in English is not required. Position: Translator Description: A translator is a person who translates a language to an English transcription without losing the significance of cultural context in original dialogue, and ensures that names and place names are transcribed correctly. A translator can either work alone or in a group of a certain language. Usually a certain group of translators splits an episode into slots for themselves to work on, e.g. an one-hour episode is split into 20 minutes per translator. Members of a group will work closely together to ensure consistency, e.g. characters' names, vocal mannerisms, etc. We are currently accepting full and spot translators of Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. Requirements: Subbing experience not necessary. Chinese translators must have access to Chinese subbed videos by BBCN or other Chinese subbed Big Bang videos in order to do translations for us. Thai translators must have access to Thai subbed videos (that do not translate from English subs) or be able to find for us videos of Big Bang in Thailand in order to do translations for us. The difference between a full and spot translator: When signing up for full translator, you are saying you are fluent enough in the language and have the time to dedicate to provide good translations of an entire video clip that is less than 20 minutes, and half or segment of a video clip that is 20 minutes or longer. Spot translators, on the other hand, only fill in missing lines in transcripts done by full translators and they also correct any wrong translations that they see. The spot translating position is good for those who may want to help out, but may not have the time to dedicate to translating a whole, or half, or a segment of a video clip. Position: Typesetter Description: Typesetting goes after editing. A Typesetter is a person who determines which font and style - and how it - should be used for a certain situation within a video (e.g. dialogue among various characters, written characters/script, and lyrics) while ensuring that subtitles are readable and easy to follow. It's probably one of most time-consuming positions within a sub team. Requirements: Must have experience as a typesetter with the software, Aegisub. Must be able to pay attention to detail and must be a perfectionist. Position: Uploader Description: An uploader is a person who uploads our hardsubbed clips on various places like Mediafire and Megaupload and also streaming video sites like Youtube, Veoh, Crunchyroll. Requirements: Must have a stable broadband internet connection. Must be able to upload and download large files from Megaupload, Mediafire and/or Sharebee. Currently not accepting applications in these positions. --------------------------------------------- Some job description info credit goes to: crunchyroll.com's wiki.
